Curriculum

Meeting Individual Needs

In the Junior School we cover a broad, balanced curriculum to ensure every child has access to a wealth of different educational experiences. The emphasis is on the development of independent learning to encourage a really imaginative, enthusiastic approach to all areas of the curriculum.

The children work in mixed ability groups in all areas of the curriculum until Year 3 where they are split into ability groupings for maths. All the staff differentiate the planning of the curriculum according to the individual needs of the children within the class.

Our Syllabus

Our syllabus is broadly based on the National Curriculum core subjects of English, Maths and Science as well as including all the foundation subjects of History, Geography, Art, Design and Technology, ICT, Physical Education, Music, Dance, Drama, French, Spanish, Religious Education  and PSHE.

We are fortunate to be a through school and children from Reception upwards are taught by Senior School staff for all their PE and Games lessons, and for Modern Foreign Languages.

As the children progress through the school, they have more contact with Senior School staff; in Years 5 and 6, Senior School staff teach the children for MFL, Games, PE and Design Technology.

This increased interaction prepares the children for life in the Senior School. They are excited by the prospect of all that is there for them and look forward to moving up, knowing they will meet some familiar staff faces when they do.

Educational Visits and Trips

To enhance the curriculum, pupils have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of off site visits. These include museums, art galleries, theatre trips, science and environmental study days and a residential visit for children in Years 4, 5 and 6.
