Teachers bring World Book Day to life with fabulous fictional fashions
Staff at LVS Ascot threw themselves into the fictional fun with a fantastic array of costumes for World Book Day, before the school fell silent for 'Drop Everything And Read'.
The Modern Foreign Languages department made a grisly scene as group of wicked witches, complete with pointed hats, wild hair and billowing cloaks.
Maths teacher Mr Lawes was startling as a fully-masked Desperate Dan, while from the Drama department a spooky Mr Morgan, with bandages wrapped over his face, came as Rorschach from the novel and film Watchmen.
Students were given the task of spotting every character and writing down their names, with prizes for those who gained the most correct answers.
Mrs Bastone, who organised the World Book Day celebrations, said: “I am thrilled at the number of staff who dress up each year for World Book Day. The students love it and have a lot of fun finding all the characters.”
Everyone then took part in ‘Drop Everything and Read’ (DEAR), a 20 minute silence where members of the school devoted themselves to reading.
Mrs Bastone was delighted with the response of students and staff alike: “As I walked round the school, EVERYONE was reading! In the classrooms, on the floor, at the office desks. Even students who initially didn't want to read enjoyed it - one reluctant reader said at the end, ‘That was lovely, I feel really nice and relaxed’.”
