Year 1 visit Totem Pole at Virginia Water
On Tuesday 9th March, Year 1 visited the Totem Pole in Virginia Water to support their work they have been doing in Art this term.
The children enjoyed looking at all the bright colours and the different patterns and animals that were carved into the 100ft cedar pole, which was given as a gift to the Queen to mark the 100th birthday of British Columbia.
Although it was a little bit chilly outside, the class had a chance to draw a section of the Totem Pole, ready for painting back at school.
Katie (aged 5) wrote an account of the trip in her literacy lesson: "First we waited for the minibus and the minibus was taking us to the totem pole. When we got there we found a map. We followed the map to the totem pole. The totem pole was enormous. I was amazed at how big it was! Miss Mullins took a picture. It helped us paint. Then we went and had a picnic. When we got back to LVS we painted our pictures."
