Student literary critics meet prize-nominated author
A group of LVS Ascot book club students have been busy over the past term shadowing the prestigious Carnegie Award - and were thrilled to meet award-nominated author Marcus Sedgwick.
Named the ‘Carnegie Critics’, the group of Year 7-11 pupils met once a week to examine and discuss the books shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal – awarded annually to the writer of an outstanding children’s book.
Having been involved in many thought-provoking discussions about one of the shortlisted books named Revolver, the group were delighted when they had the opportunity to meet the author, Marcus Sedgwick, at an author event hosted by the Education Library Service.
“The students asked Marcus some excellent questions about his book," explains Sue Bastone, head librarian at LVS. "They have an in-depth understanding of its meaning and themes that were discovered during the book club.”
She added: “It was an excellent opportunity for them to expand their minds and extend their reading while gathering an appreciation for writing.”
