Sport at LVS
We pride ourselves on the huge breadth of sporting activities and fixtures we offer girls and boys from the Junior School through to the Sixth Form. We are one of the few schools in the country to hold the Sport England Sports Mark Gold Award which recognises the quality of the physical education and sporting provision at the school.
Our Sports Programme
The Physical Education Department leads the sports programme across the school, keenly supported by other staff. The programme focuses on maximising the opportunities for as many students as possible, while also providing a strong competitive sports fixture list. Competitive sports fixtures start as early as Year 5, who have a full programme of football and netball in the Autumn and Spring Terms.
The Junior School also compete in local and county cross country championships and have competitive swimming and athletics fixtures. In the Senior School, boys major on rugby in the Autumn Term and football in the Spring Term while the girls follow hockey and netball respectively. In the Summer Term boys play cricket while the girls focus on rounders with tennis and athletics teams for both. Competitive swimming, basketball, cross country and badminton are also played at the school.
Intra-School Competition
While over 50% of the student population is regularly involved in competitive inter-school sport we also cater for intra-school competition through the house sport competition. House sport is very popular with the emphasis on taking part and celebrating a sense of community, although much of the competition is still hard fought and there is a healthy but strong rivalry between the houses.
A whole series of house events takes place throughout the year with all the major games included. The house competition culminates in our whole school sports day, where the final efforts of all who represent their house are added to the points total for the whole year's competition.
