LVS Ascot Student Commended For Cooking Demonstration

LVS Ascot student Abhishek Gurung represented the school recently in the prestigious Rotary Club of Ascot Young Chef of the Year Competition against a strong group of contestants from other Berkshire schools.

Abhishek prepared meticulously for the event with advance planning and preparation, assisted by Miss Gill, for the test that involved cooking two dishes in 1.5 hours with a healthy eating theme and a budget of £15.

His menu was a main course of warm prawn and mushroom broth accompanied by Nepalese-inspired beef dumplings with a spicy tomato chutney. His dessert was an orange and cardamom crème brulee with a crumbly shortbread.

Abhishek was cheered on by last year’s winner and LVS Ascot representative, Alfie Lawley, who was able to offer his support and experience.
Although Abhishek did not win, he was an excellent ambassador for the school and was commended for demonstrating excellent and ever improving cooking skills – development that will inspire him for his Food Technology GCSE next summer.
