Abhas

Abhas enjoyed his LVS Ascot boarding experience and is grateful for the opportunities the school and his family have given him. With his family in the forces and often moving around, it was important they found a stable, secure base for him and his schooling.

When he first found out he would be leaving his local school, aged 11, to join a boarding school in Ascot, Abhas was a little nervous. He was afraid he would be the only child from an armed forces family, and the differences between him and the other students would be great.

However, he was he thrilled to find other students from similar backgrounds and that everyone was very welcoming. They had a great understanding of diversity and different circumstances.

“The support of my fellow boarders and the boarding staff helped me become “more confident day by day””

Abhas would like to become a solicitor. “I want to show my parents that the money they’ve invested in me has paid off. I want them to be proud of me and get that university degree. It’s now my main objective.”

His sixth form studies were in History, Psychology, and Business and he says his teachers were always available and keen to help him keep up with extra resources and test papers. The support of his fellow boarders and the boarding staff also helped him become “more confident day by day”.

Making the switch to university life from school can be difficult for many students, but Abhas thinks he was given a great foundation to go to university and thrive. Weekend cooking lessons taught him how to make things like quesadillas, spaghetti bolognese and vegan dishes, and he was taught how to manage a budget too.

In the lower school Abhas tried many co-curricular activities. He enjoyed swimming and football especially. He thinks the facilities at LVS Ascot offer something for everyone, no matter what they’re interested in. Being Head of Boarding really improved his confidence. He knew the Heads of House were always there to help him with speeches and lines he needed to learn. And, as he says, “it is an honour to have held the title and the experience will be good for me in the future”.

There is always something going on at LVS Ascot and Abhas says he learnt to figure out what he really enjoyed and to concentrate on those activities.

“LVS Ascot is a really good community. It was my home from home, but now I’ll be focussing on my university future and the outside world.”
