Means Testing for Bursaries

Bursaries and means testing
Bursaries are usually awarded to enable a student to study at a school, college or university when they may not be able to afford it otherwise.
In the spirit that bursaries are intended, we ask for all bank statements for the household, (individual plus joint accounts), statements for all debts and financial liabilities such as mortgages. We use the Joseph Rowntree minimum income standard calculation to calculate how much disposable income the family has after paying housing costs, utilities and any financial liabilities like credit cards etc. However, this calculation is quite generous and allows for things you may not expect.
