Special Educational Needs Support
SEND at LVS Ascot
LVS Ascot is not a specialist school, but we are able to support students who have mild learning needs such as dyslexia and ADHD. Subject teachers undergo regular training to ensure that most mild learning needs can be met in the classroom without additional support.
Our focus is on building trusting relationships with all our students and working in partnership with parents. This applies whether the student is confident and aware of their learning needs or at the beginning of a journey to find out how they learn best. Our aim is to ensure positive outcomes for all our students, whatever that may mean for them.
The Neurodiversity team is committed to supporting learners through the effective use of assistive technology and by providing appropriate exam arrangements (for those who qualify under JCQ guidelines). We use whole-school literacy assessments, supported by reliable screening tools and detailed teacher feedback, to build a thorough understanding of each student’s unique learning profile as they move through their education.
At the heart of our approach is the belief in nurturing confidence, encouraging independent learning, and valuing diverse ways of thinking. We actively promote meta-thinking, helping students to develop self-awareness about how they learn, reflect on their thinking processes, and apply strategies that enhance their learning outcomes. We also place a strong emphasis on building resilience, supporting students to persevere through challenges, embrace mistakes as learning opportunities, and develop the determination to overcome barriers.
By equipping students with personalised support, practical strategies, and essential life skills, we aim to empower them to thrive not only in their education but also in the workplace and throughout adult life.
