Angus

Despite enjoying many disciplines, including sports and the creative arts, Angus settled on History as the subject he planned to pursue for his degree. He studied A-Levels in Philosophy, History, and Drama and has now gone on to Royal Holloway, University of London, to study Ancient and Medieval History.

Angus liked the way the A-Level years are structured to give students a greater degree of independence.

He was also grateful for the guidance and support the teachers gave him, often going above and beyond what was expected of them.

“There isn’t a limit on the help that the teachers will give you, whether it’s on the academic side or to do with any personal issues you might have.”

“It wasn’t until I was at LVS Ascot that I discovered what I really liked.”

Something Angus particularly enjoyed in the Sixth Form was the opportunity to learn new skills that will help him at university. With the Leiths cookery class he did in the Lower Sixth Form he says he gained a qualification and acquired new friends whilst learning a great life skill. He feels he was being well prepared for life after school.

Angus is also pursuing his interest in film studies, either as a director or an actor, after leaving school. He found the professional and caring nature of his teachers helped him discover his creative side.

“It wasn’t until I was at LVS Ascot that I discovered what I really liked. You get a lot of support and advice. Thanks to the amazing opportunities at the school in the performing arts department, I’ve found myself able to try new things. I did well in the ISA (Independent Schools Association) media competition, even though it wasn’t one of my school subjects. I’ve discovered I really enjoyed creative writing and I’ll be continuing acting at university.”

Angus got involved in all aspects of the performing arts. As well as acting and working backstage, he loved music too. He says playing in the band on stage for the musical production ‘Six’, is one of his proudest achievements. He is even hoping to come back and work at the theatre in the future.

Angus is grateful for the support to his wellbeing he received when an injury prevented him from playing sports for a period of time. He had the opportunity to continue to attend training and be part of the team, even though he could not participate. He says it helped him greatly with his rehabilitation, physically and mentally.

Angus enjoyed his time at LVS Ascot and will miss it, but he’s looking forward to the future and the new experiences life holds in store.
