George - Sixth Form Day Student

LVS Ascot Sixth form student

George

As a student studying English, History, and Drama for his A-Levels, George was able to take his personal interests through into his studies.

When he joined LVS Ascot, George was particularly attracted by the school’s working theatre and Performing Arts Department. He enjoyed all the options available to students and loved performing in productions, producing the musicals, and volunteering for backstage roles too. He was able to learn new and different skills with the help of the professional technicians who came in to work in the theatre.

George is now at Nottingham University studying History, with an eye to studying law later on. He was also very keen to continue with his performing arts after he left school.

“They want you to have an enjoyable time. If you do the work and put in the effort, you can get a lot out of it, but it’s about feeling good mentally too. If you’re enjoying what you’re doing, you’ll see the results.”

He feels he benefited from the smaller class sizes in the LVS Ascot Sixth Form and he knew his teachers were always there for him if he needed any additional help. “It’s was great, having that extra support. The teachers helped to make sure you are as successful as you can be.”

Although there can be a lot going on for Sixth Form students, George still found time to do other things he enjoyed at school. When he was not studying or in the Performing Arts Department, George still took advantage of the school’s indoor swimming pool. When he was younger, he competed at county level and he appreciated having such a great facility on campus.

George had friends who were both boarders and fellow day pupils and she says LVS Ascot “felt more like an inclusive and supportive community than a school”. He thinks the teachers understand that to get good academic results, it is important to be happy at school.

“They want you to have an enjoyable time. If you do the work and put in the effort, you can get a lot out of it, but it’s about feeling good mentally too. If you’re enjoying what you’re doing, you’ll see the results.”

George says he was sad to leave but is excited for what the future holds for him. He knows he has made friends for life and will always look back fondly on his years at LVS Ascot.
