What Our Sixth Form Students Say

The Sixth Form at LVS Ascot is an environment where responsibility and independence are encouraged alongside support, friendship and co-curricular activities. We aim to prepare our students for their next step, whether it be into university, an apprenticeship or the workplace.
At LVS Ascot we recognise that if the student is happy then they will learn and succeed at their A Levels or BTECs.
On this part of our website we let our students, past and present, tell you in their own words about their experience at our school, and where they think it will take them now.

Scarlett
A day pupil who joined LVS Ascot in the summer of Year 4, Scarlett acted as our Wellbeing Prefect. She loved the opportunities this role gave her to help others. Scarlett arrived at the school as a shy and sensitive child and says the school has made her the person she is today.
She enjoyed how the Sixth Form is organised to prepare students for life at university and beyond school.
“The way we learned and the way we were treated by the teachers was different. They encouraged us to do what works”.
Scarlett overcame her shyness and enjoyed performing in school productions. She loved playing on stage as the bass player in the band for the musical ‘Six’.

Abhas
Our recent Head of Boarding, Abhas, joined LVS Ascot in Year 7. Abhas says his boarding experience at LVS Ascot has prepared him for the future.
“I learned how to take care of myself… and just be myself as well. They are pretty important skills, and they were my top priorities.”
The co-curricular activities and teambuilding exercises he did when he first joined the school helped him settle in quickly, build confidence, and make new friends.
As Head of Boarding, he got to support others by making sure they got any help they needed with studies, sports, or making friends. “Boarding at LVS Ascot is not just ‘sleeping at school’, it’s more like a family,” he says.

Jabari
Jabari was a recent Head Boy and he joined the school as a boarder in Year 7. His family moved around a lot when he was younger as they are in the armed forces. LVS Ascot was able to offer him a stable and nurturing environment. Jabari was also keen to find a solid friendship group and says he made lifelong friends at the school.
The duties of being Head Boy may have taken up some of Jabari’s free time, but he studied hard for his A-Levels. He is also a keen athlete and has his sights set on the 2028 Olympics. He says LVS Ascot supported him to work towards that goal.

George
George was a day pupil in the Sixth Form, having joined LVS Ascot halfway through Year 8 after he and his family returned from living in Dubai. He made a conscious decision to stay on in the Sixth Form. This was not just for the facilities and the experience, but also because he felt the teachers knew him well and would help him achieve his potential.
“I feel at other schools you don’t really get that kind of teacher-student relationship. At LVS Ascot it really feels like they want the best for you. They were always happy to mark extra work and help you with coursework. They ran additional lessons when required, and they were willing to do whatever they could to help you thrive.”

Angelina
Angelina was a recent Head Girl. She arrived at LVS Ascot as a day pupil in January of Year 4, and says she felt like she fitted in from the moment she arrived.
Angelina is proud of achieving the best GCSE results in her year group and credits the LVS Ascot experience with helping her realise her full potential. In her former school she had been disengaged and lacking support. She was even tested for dyslexia, but she thinks she was just in the wrong environment to thrive.
“The close support of LVS Ascot helped me find my niches like performance and the creative side of things like writing. But I also got extra support I needed in subjects like maths, which I’d always found harder”.

Angus
Angus found LVS Ascot a welcoming environment when he arrived as a day pupil in Year 5. He had previously attended school in Houston, Texas, for three years. Settling into school life in the USA had been quite difficult, but at LVS Ascot he felt at home again immediately.
“It was easy to find a group of people and make friends very quickly. It turned out to be a great experience for me”.
As he entered the Sixth Form, with some friends leaving and new students joining, Angus was pleased to discover that existing friendship groups were very welcoming, and new people integrated easily. He saw this social experience as a great preparatory step on the road to beginning university life.
“In the supportive atmosphere, pupils are polite and thoughtful and apply themselves purposefully to their studies.”
