Scarlett - Sixth Form Day Student

Scarlett
At LVS Ascot Scarlett studied Politics, Philosophy, and Psychology at A-Level and went on to Reading University to study Psychology. She discovered her interest in the subject back in Year 5 at the school, when she joined the LVS Ascot Psychology Club. She had always planned to go to university and is now excited to be gaining knowledge at degree level in a discipline she is fascinated by.
She is grateful for the support of her teachers, who ensured she received all the information she needed when she was unable to write her own notes due to a disability. Scarlett enjoyed the new-found independence the Sixth Form gave her, and it helped her feel more self-motivated and grown up. She says it seemed laid back, but then she realised she was actually working very hard!
“Sixth Form opens up new possibilities with new pupils arriving at the school, it’s a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.”
Life at LVS Ascot helped Scarlett feel supported and encouraged to explore opportunities and get outside her comfort zone. Both she and her parents noticed a positive difference in her confidence levels.
Scarlett loves music and performed as a solo singer and as a bass player in the band alongside professional musicians in school theatre productions, and even professionally outside the school. She is hoping to get involved in the performing-arts side of university life too.
Sixth Form opens up new possibilities with new pupils arriving at the school and Scarlett says it’s a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The team-building taster day before the term officially starts really helps people get to know each other. New students quickly find their place within different friendship groups, even when they arrive in the middle of a year.
The Sixth Form has two common rooms they share, but the Upper Sixth now has its own designated areas with new furniture. “We felt like we could go to the Heads of Sixth Form if we had any issues and they would treat us like adults”, Scarlett says.
Scarlett was keen to hold the position of Wellbeing Prefect when she entered the Sixth Form as she recognised the importance of good mental health and destigmatising the subject. She took the initiative of visiting the different houses to explain how the wellbeing support system worked at the school.
“It was important for people to know we had good resources in school, and we could book an appointment whenever we want, even in the holidays”.
Scarlett was delighted when her teachers told her they had seen a positive response, with students being more proactive in seeking support.
She is ultimately looking forward to a job where she can help companies plan their wellbeing provisions.
“In the supportive atmosphere, pupils are polite and thoughtful and apply themselves purposefully to their studies.”
