Angelina - Sixth Form Day Student

Angelina
Angelina studied English, History, and Drama at A-Level, and a BTEC in Media. She took advantage of the LVS Ascot Careers Officer to help in choosing universities and writing her personal statement. The performing arts are a big part of Angelina’s life, and she has now gone on to study Acting at The University of Surrey.
“You’d be surprised at how many universities don’t have a good working theatre like we did at LVS Ascot. We were so lucky with the facilities and the backstage crew there.”
Staying on in the Sixth Form was an easy decision for Angelina – and not just because of the amazing facilities she had access to. She felt that knowing the teachers and her surroundings offered her the stability she needed.
“LVS Ascot allowed me to explore my interests and strengthen my academic results in a supportive and friendly environment.”
Angelina particularly liked the greater independence she got to study and learn in the Sixth Form. As she could drive to school, she gained more independence generally and helped her parents out by driving her younger sister to the school too.
Angelina first got involved in the performing arts in Year 5 for an inter-house competition and she didn’t look back. The school structures performances around year group calendars to encourage curriculum balance, which Angelina was grateful for as her academic studies were also very important to her.
‘Performing arts was a big part of my life at LVS Ascot. I wasn’t really into it and didn’t know much about it before I arrived, and now I’m doing it at degree level. I really enjoyed performance and I think it was good to have gained film experience too’.
Angelina particularly enjoyed the opportunities students had to work behind the scenes on productions. This was alongside people who are properly trained and have experience in working theatres outside the school.
As Head Girl, Angelina led assemblies and held Student Council meetings alongside the prefects. She feels that public speaking and debate – one of her favourite co-curricular activities at the school – built up her confidence and made her duties easier.
LVS Ascot allowed Angelina to explore her interests and strengthen her academic results in a supportive and friendly environment.
Being in the Sixth Form and studying drama also helped her get more involved with children in the younger years. Angelina realised the importance of being a strong role model for them, just as she looked up to the older years as her role models. She enjoyed her time at LVS Ascot and is confident about what the future holds for her.
“In the supportive atmosphere, pupils are polite and thoughtful and apply themselves purposefully to their studies.”
